Katie Baum Mettenbrink

Originally from Portland, OR, Katie has gotten her mail in Lander since 2003. She has worked in outdoor education since 1999, currently as the associate operations director at NOLS, supervising teams who run wilderness expeditions and teach leadership around the world. Over the last 20 years, she has played a variety of different roles at NOLS- she supervised the program in Alaska, staffed custom courses for in-tact teams, led the school's risk management consulting program, chaired the Wilderness Risk Management Conference (WRMC), and led extended expeditions as an instructor. Before landing at NOLS, she taught environmental education in the Pacific Northwest, organized a local political campaign, worked at Princeton University's outdoor program, and spent as much time on climbing trips as possible.

Early in her professional career, Katie worked with few women. Since then, building personal and professional connections with other women in Lander has brought so much joy and inspiration to her life and work. Contributing to that opportunity for others through Lander Womentum is deeply satisfying.

Katie lives in town with her partner and young son. She enjoys riding bikes, skiing, eating good food, adventuring with her family, and being part of an amazing community of parents doing their best to act like a village.
